Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Reach out by filling out the contact form here. We will then work together to schedule a free phone consultation. The phone consult will give us the chance to get to know what you are looking for and to ensure I am a good fit for your needs. There are no strings attached! Bring any questions you may have for me.

What is the first full session like?

Prior to our first appointment, I will have sent you paperwork to complete electronically in the secure client portal. Before we can meet for our first session, documents must be complete.

The first full session will be an intake session. This is a session in which I follow up on the paperwork that you provided me and get to know you even more. We will go over your history, strengths, struggles, and previous experiences with mental health care. We will discuss your goals for therapy and next steps for our sessions.

My main goals for this first session are to get to know you and help you to begin to feel comfortable with the process of therapy. Of course, I believe we are always changing and evolving, so I will always be getting to know you and greeting you as you are.

How long do I have to attend therapy?

You can terminate therapy with me at any time you wish, however therapy works best when we have an established relationship and have spent the appropriate amount of time reaching your goals. I have some clients who are long-term, as they desire and value ongoing support. I work with other clients who want support only through certain seasons of their lives. We can discuss what works best for you.

What if, after a few sessions, I don’t think therapy is helping?

Therapy is an investment and it’s so important that you actually feel that it’s helping you. If at any point you feel that my approach to therapy is not a good fit for your needs, please share this with me. It will not hurt my feelings and I will be grateful for the feedback! There are many kinds of therapists out there, and not one size fits all. It’s important you get your needs met so that I can refer you to appropriate resources that can help you.

What does it mean to use out-of-network (OON) benefits?

Submitting claims for out-of-network services means your insurance company may reimburse you after-the-fact for a portion of your counseling fees. Reimbursement depends on your insurance company and benefits plan and is something that is handled entirely on your end. Upon your request, I can provide a billing statement called a “Superbill” for you to submit to your insurer with your claim.

Check with your insurance company to see if you qualify for out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you write letters for gender-affirming care?

Yes, I provide this service free of charge for active adult therapy clients. I do not provide this service free of charge for folks who are interested in obtaining letters only. If you are looking for a quicker way to get the documents you need, visit FOLX Health to inquire about virtual healthcare.

How do you accept payments?

Credit, debit, and HSA cards are accepted as methods for payment.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I accept Aetna.
I am also considered an out-of-network (OON) provider with most insurance companies should you have OON benefits.

What is a sliding-scale?

A sliding-scale is a range of adjusted therapy rates that are based on individual need. The scale used for this practice is based on individual income and resources and ranges from $80 to $175 per session. You can still use your OON benefits even with a reduced rate, too.

Must I provide proof of income?

I will not ask for proof of your income. I trust that you will be honest about your financial situation. Keep in mind that sliding-scale rates are available on a limited basis.

The more you can comfortably pay for therapy, the more it will be available for those who need much lower rates.

What if someone else is paying for my sessions?

If someone else is paying for your therapy sessions, I ask that you accurately report that person’s income for the sliding scale agreement if applicable. If you are using someone else’s credit card, I will ask for written permission to interact with this person regarding payments for therapy only, if ever needed.
